It’s not often I’m THIS EXCITED for a game to come out. RetroMania Wrestling seriously checks off every tick of the box for a game I’m going to become hopelessly addicted to upon release.
This is a massive labor of love for the crew at Retrosoft Studios and it shows. Want those tick of the box reasons considering I haven’t even played it yet and only have seen the same videos everyone else has on their YouTube / Facebook / Twitter / etc?
My reasons RetroMania Wrestling ticks the boxes that matter:
It’s a Wrestling game that’s NOT WWE2k and honestly that makes me so happy. I love wrestling games, I’m sick of a yearly edition of the same basic crap and gameplay.
Retro-based. This is the official sequel to WrestleFest and that is NOT to be taken lightly. Quite possibly the greatest wrestling arcade game of all-time in my humble opinion. So a sequel that was given the proper nod? Holy crap.
The roster. The team at Retrosoft have gone both classic and modern with an eclectic mix that is just one for the ages. Road Warriors, bWo, Nick Aldis, Warhorse, Johnny Retro (Morrison), Tommy Dreamer, Colt Cabana, and more. They also plan to have DLC because, why the hell not. It’s 2020 and this can go on FOREVER if the cards are played right!
The demo above came out at the end of last year, November 2019. Many more wrestlers (listed above) have since been released. The studio setting in the demo being just like the NWA’s Studio is amazing and chasing Nick Aldis for the Ten Pounds of Gold is going to be something outstanding.
Features? I got your features right here:

I grew up dropping 1000’s of quarters into Mat Mania and WrestleFest and I’m eagerly waiting for Steam on my Wishlist to load this up on the PC and play for hours. That 8bitdo N30 stick is going to get WORN OUT on this game. I thought Streets of Rage 4 was going to kill the stick, and it may still, but with this coming out soon I better order some spare parts because I get into it like a maniac playing games like this. I just love it man, words can’t express that enough.
Having a game like this coming out 35 years after Mat Mania just says it all for me. This is what I consider video game excellence. I’m obviously not alone in that belief.
The best part to me is that I’m also going to get to share this with my kid. She absolutely LOVES retro gaming, and wrestling games. So Mike and the Retrosoft Studios crew can already count me on the ledger for any and all DLC content coming, including that women’s roster everyone on the Facebook RetroMania Wrestling page keep asking for 🙂
So when does this come out?
I know, I know. That feels like forever from now, especially with us all tucked away in our homes while CovidMania is running wild on the US.
I’m hiding out here in New York doing the best I can, posting more about games and building my retro-loving Dirty Coinslot to the universe. Hopefully sharing that love of retro with fellow retro maniacs, so we can all beat the crap out of each other this summer in RetroMania Wrestling!
That’s my plan at least.. and my first wrestler to chase for the Ten Pounds of Gold?
It will be WARHORSE!!!!!
